Adoration & Praise

Come Praise and Glorify (Chester and B. Kauflin)

Come thou Fount of Every Blessing (Robinson)

Call to Confession: Isaiah 53:4, 6

Surely he has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
smitten by God, and afflicted.
All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned—every one—to his own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.

Gracious Lord,
We are filled with thanksgiving at your majesty,
That as we gather to worship you this morning,
     we have the privilege to sing of your glory, God, the three-in-one who fathered the Lamb.
This Lamb, Jesus, also became our Shepherd,
     leading us perfectly by the perfect word of his Father.
But we, the sheep, have seen fit to graze in other fields,
     Unprotected pastures where we think that we can fend for ourselves against the evil that lies in wait.
In reality, O Lord, we have wandered far from you,
     And we confess our waywardness of heart.
Jesus, thank you for being the sacrificial Lamb,
     Whom God saw fit to be the one to bear the wounds of crucifixion that we might boast in you!
In your peace, may the words that come from our lips be praise,
     Singing and living to the Lamb who died to bring us to the King.
Holy Spirit, may we no longer wander and be lost,
    Placing our trust in our own works.
Rather, may our worship be an expression of trust,
    Hoping in the assurance of your promises.

Not What My Hands Have Done (Bonar and Martin)

Gospel & Thanksgiving

Assurance of Pardon: Isaiah 53:5

All I Have is Christ (J. Kauflin)

Sermon Text: Romans 11:1-6

"I ask, then, has God rejected his people?
By no means!
For I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham,
a member of the tribe of Benjamin.
God has not rejected his people
whom he foreknew.
Do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah,
how he appeals to God against Israel?
“Lord, they have killed your prophets,
they have demolished your altars,
and I alone am left,
and they seek my life.”
But what is God's reply to him?
“I have kept for myself seven thousand men
who have not bowed the knee to Baal.”
So too at the present time there is a remnant,
chosen by grace.
But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works;
otherwise grace would no longer be grace."
