Revelation Song (Jobe)

Confession

Scripture Recitation: Romans 3:10-18

As it is written:
“None is righteous, no, not one;
no one understands;
no one seeks for God.
All have turned aside; together they have become worthless;
no one does good,
not even one.”
“Their throat is an open grave;
they use their tongues to deceive.”
“The venom of asps is under their lips.”
“Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.”
“Their feet are swift to shed blood;
in their paths are ruin and misery,
and the way of peace they have not known.”
“There is no fear of God before their eyes."

Corporate Reading: Psalm 51:16-17

"For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it;
you will not be pleased with a burnt offering.
 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise"

Prayer:

Our Father,
We come bringing the only thing we have,
And the only thing your word tells us you require:
We come holding our broken hearts
And hold our empty hands.

We forsake all of our attempts to fix ourselves,
And we ask you to smash into pieces
All of the idols of self-righteousness,
Our worthless saviors, to soothe our stinging consciences.

Jesus, because you were torn for us
We have a place to hide in your wounds.
Jesus, you never shifted your obedience, not even toward the cross,
And so your life is a solid rock, a firm foundation on which we stand.

Holy Spirit, hide us in the shelter of Christ,
Wrest our grip from self-justifying lies
So that we can cling to the cross.
We cling to the cross.

Gospel & Thanksgiving

Scripture Reading: John 10:27-30

"My sheep hear my voice,
and I know them,
and they follow me.
I give them eternal life,
and they will never perish,
and no one will snatch them out of my hand.
My Father, who has given them to me,
is greater than all,
and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand.
I and the Father are one."
