Scripture Reading: Matthew 5:17-20
God of All Glory,
Great is the mercy that you extend to your people,
Even when we, your people, do not seek you.
How beautiful it is when you call us to be your sons and daughters,
Hungry and thirsty for your righteousness.
How beautiful when your blessing reaches the merciful, the peacemakers,
The pure in heart, and the persecuted in your name.
O Lord, forgive us for when we do not live out qualities such as these,
When righteousness is the last thing on our mind, and we want the control in our lives.
In our so-called "wisdom," we receive false glory and our hearts are hardened,
Our eyes are turned from you.
There are times when we wallow in our pain,
Pitying ourselves for the persecution faced in stead of counting it joy.
And yet, your blessings are extended still!
You have made foolish the wisdom of this world.
In your glory, you satisfy the hungry, comfort those who mourn,
You reveal yourself to those who purify themselves before you.
Out of compassion and perfect love, you call us to yourself,
Promising to lift our burdens and the gift of rest.
Heavenly Father, may we surrender ourselves to you,
Recognizing your posture of humility and comfort.
May our posture be, then, one that mirrors yours,
Hungry, humble, and willing to receive the rest that comes by your Spirit.
To you be the honor and glory in all that we do and say.
